The Baixa Pombalina (a UNESCO world heritage site)
This original architectural style takes its name from the Marquês de Pombal who had this area rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake. Rua Augusta (500 metres from your apartment door) is in one of the busiest areas in Lisbon. It is a pedestrian street full of shops, street vendors selling flowers or roast chestnuts and independent street artists, such as the ‘statue man’, concertina players and many more. There are two magnificent squares at either end of this street, , Rossio Square, and Comércio Square.
Bairro Alto and Alfama
You can reach the two most traditional districts of Lisbon within minutes! Visit Alfama for the architecture, sounds and atmosphere of ancient Lisbon. Along these narrow, winding streets, and up and down Alfama’s steep stone steps you will find hidden treasures and get a feel for the true soul of Lisbon.
Lisbon Nightlife - On foot
All within 5 minutes of your apartment you will find plenty of places for an evening stroll, and bars, cafés and discos are plentiful in places like Cais do Sodré, 24 de Julho, Alcântara, Santa Apolónia.

The days of relying on Caravels (Portuguese two-masted boats) to carry you from one bank of the river to the other have long since gone. Today you can take modern ferry boats ("cacilheiros"). Trains take you to other parts of the country, while the subway, or metro as it is known locally, takes you around the city of Lisbon. There are also street cars, buses and other public transport links at Caís do Sodré station.
