The Baixa Pombalina (a UNESCO world heritage site)
This original architectural style takes its name from the Marquês de Pombal who had this area rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake. Rua Augusta (500 metres from your apartment door) is in one of the busiest areas in Lisbon. It is a pedestrian street full of shops, street vendors selling flowers or roast chestnuts and independent street artists, such as the ‘statue man’, concertina players and many more. There are two magnificent squares at either end of this street, one, Rossio Square, and the other, Comércio Square.

Public Transport
This apartment is located just 50 metres from Caís do Sodré Station, a public transport hub, with links to many destinations, both within and outside the city of Lisbon.
The days of relying on Caravels (Portuguese two-masted boats) to carry you from one bank of the river to the other have long since gone. Today you can take modern ferry boats ("cacilheiros"). Trains take you to other parts of the country, while the subway, or metro as it is known locally, takes you around the city of Lisbon. There are also street cars, buses and other public transport links at Caís do Sodré station.
